Hardwear Forum was created because most online techwear discussion has drifted too far from reality.
There are already plenty of places to post mirror selfies and ask “does this look hard?” This forum exists for something different.
Our Purpose
We are a U.S.-focused community dedicated to functional techwear — clothing and gear designed for real-world performance in urban environments. We care about how pieces actually behave under daily stress: rain-soaked commutes, temperature swings, heavy carry loads, repeated washing, and long-term durability.
We believe techwear should be a practical system, not just an aesthetic. This means honest conversations about:
How different membranes and fabrics perform after months of real use
Which patterning and construction details actually improve mobility and comfort
Smart layering strategies that work across seasons
Budget-conscious ways to build reliable setups
Practical DIY modifications that solve genuine problems
Where premium gear earns its price, and where it doesn’t
What Sets Us Apart
Function over flex — We prioritize real performance data and lived experience over brand prestige and hype.
Beginner-friendly but quality-focused — New users are welcome and respected, but we maintain high standards for discussion quality.
Structured and searchable — Our four focused boards help conversations stay on topic and make useful information easier to find.
Anti-gatekeeping — Techwear should not require social hazing or a minimum spend to participate.
Our Boards
Newcomer Dock — The welcoming on-ramp for beginners. First purchases, budget builds, common pitfalls, and foundational advice.
Fits & Carry — Real-world outfits, EDC loadouts, layering systems, and daily carry breakdowns with context.
Hardproof Reviews — Evidence-based testing, fabric comparisons, durability reports, and legit checks.
Mod Lab — Repairs, hardware swaps, custom modifications, and practical DIY solutions.
Our Culture & Values
We aim to be:
Curious — Always willing to learn and test assumptions
Specific — Vague opinions and low-effort posts have no place here
Useful — Every contribution should help someone make better decisions
Respectful — Strong technical disagreement is encouraged; personal attacks are not
We value clear writing, honest feedback, and a willingness to share both successes and failures. The goal is to help each other build better, more functional systems — not to chase internet validation.
